How to Get Involved in TPA

TPA is your State Professional Association. TPA leaders have chosen to become involved in order to protect the practice of psychology. Board Members, Directorates, and Committee Members are generally all practicing clinical and academic psychologists; they have diverse careers, live in different parts of Tennessee, are passionate about their interests, and come with a variety of natural strengths and skills. Those active in TPA look forward to involvement from members. Here are some of the many options Psychologists and TPA members have to get more involved:

ANNUAL CONVENTION ACTIVITIES:

  • Attend TPA’s Annual Convention in person and meet your peers in the field, as well as TPA Board members, committee members, and students.
  • Attend the convention Business Meeting Luncheon to get updates on recent TPA activities, awards and honors, and recent accomplishments.
  • Get to know TPA Board members at the convention social events (e.g., historically, such events have included ice cream socials, karaoke night, lip sync contests, and auctions with delicious catered foods and beverages).

BOARD of DIRECTORS ACTIVITIES

  • Attend the Open Comment Section of TPA Board of Directors meetings (hosted virtually every other month via Zoom).
  • Participate in TPA Board elections by voting and by nominating individuals from your community to serve.
  • Run for an open TPA Board position (See Below for currently open Board positions) or apply for an Early Career Psychologist (ECP) Fellowship (if you are less than 10 years post-graduation). In these positions, you can learn more about how TPA works to address the professional concerns of Tennessee Psychologists and the mental health concerns of our citizens.

[By the way, TPA Board Members can earn 5 Continuing Education (CE) hours per licensing period!]

OTHER WAYS TO GET INVOLVED:

  • Join a TPA Committee or Special Interest Group (SIG). Check out descriptions of these groups on tpaonline.org in the About TPA tab.
  • Get to know other TPA members by following, sharing information, and referring to each other through the TPA Listserv (available to TPA members).
  • Keep up with TPA by reading the TPA Newsletter (available to TPA members), or checking out our social media platforms, including Facebook (@TPA4U) and LinkedIn. Like or share TPA social media posts to spread the news and increase our reach!
  • If you have any special interests or skills and would like to participate *somehow*, contact us, and we’ll see where you can fit in! TPA is always looking for interested and passionate Psychologists to participate on the board, in committees, in special interest groups, contribute to social media and newsletter content, and present at regularly offered CE events.

CURRENT OPEN POSITIONS:

  • Contact info@tpaonline.org for a list of open electorate and directorate positions.
  • All TPA Committees are welcoming of new members at any time!
